Waiver/Disclosure Form
Before speaking with Law Library staff, it is a requirement of our program that you read and understand the following: The Law Library is available to the public for the purpose of obtaining general legal information.
The Law Library staff may help you in the following ways:

  • Direct you to procedural or general legal information
  • Direct you to information about court procedures, steps in a legal action and what to expect in court
  • Assist you in printing what forms you need
  • Refer you to other agencies or organizations that may be able to assist you

There may be times the Law Library is unable to assist you. This is not because we don’t want to help; it is because the matter/issues in your case are too complex or require specialized knowledge or expertise that only a lawyer would have. In these cases, the staff will advise you to seek a private attorney or refer you to another agency.

The Law Library is not responsible for any deadlines or for the timely filing of your court documents. This is your responsibility. Similarly, the staff is not responsible for the outcome of your case.

The Law Library is neutral. What this means is that what you tell our staff is not confidential. The staff can and will assist both you and the opposing party/parties in your case, although not at the same appointment time.

The Law Library staff will not give you legal advice. The staff cannot tell you whether or not you should go to court. Further, our staff will not provide you with remedies or outcomes you should try to seek. The staff is unable to go to court with you and does not represent you in any legal capacity. The staff will not offer personal opinions about your case or discuss what they would do in the situation. The staff cannot make a determination of your chances of winning/losing; that is the judge’s job.

The staff assisting you in our office is not your lawyer. There is no attorney-client relationship between you and any person at the Law Library. The program is neutral and does not represent any party, and will not attend court or act as your attorney in any way.

The Law Library can be busy; every effort will be made to meet with you in the order you arrived and or/ by your scheduled appointed time. Your respect, courtesy and patience are appreciated while waiting for us to assist you.

If you desire to have personalized advice, discuss strategies, have a confidential conversation, or be represented by counsel in court, you should consult a private attorney.

When engaging with the Tehama County Law Library, you will be asked to sign this form before receiving assistance.
